On Wednesday, 18th of December 2013

The American Christian organization Samaritan’s Purse launched the action “Operation Christmas Child”. Shoeboxes filled with goodies, mostly gifts for children, were flown to the Philippines for distribution in the typhoon affected areas in Leyte. New Apostolic members joined the drive and contributed to  the project 668 shoeboxes. four congregations (East Brunswick, Paramus, Wayne & Spring Valley) hosted ‘packing parties’ to prepare shoe boxes to donate. Each box was packed with a prayer for the child who would receive the gift box. In addition, the Parsippany-Troy Hills Congregation, served as a Relay Collection Center receiving over 2000 shoe boxes donated by area churches, organizations and individuals Retired Priest and Sister Zurflueh went personally to JFK Airport to witness the loading and take off of the airplane. They signed the banner which accompanied the boxes proclaiming ‘YOU ARE LOVED AND NOT FORGOTTEN’

A warm thank you from the Philippines goes to these good Samaritans and our New Jersey Congregations for such a wonderful initiative, a true action of Christian cooperation in reaching out and helping each other.
