The Art of Thanksgiving in the Philippines
Celebrating Thanksgiving has such a long tradition in the New Apostolic Church; yet in the Philippines, altar-decorations on that special first Sunday in October have become a work of expressing thanksgiving in a very creative way. Thanksgiving is a thing of expression and congregations, big and small are given much room to decorate their Sunday Altars in a special thanksgiving fashion as it depicts congregation culture. Naturally therefore it is a matter of color. However the produce from earth, fruit and vegetables are still the basic items of a Thanksgiving Altar. After all, Thanksgiving is in its original meaning about the harvest and thus our daily bread.
Our picture gallery gives us a rather limited impression, yet a testimonial of Thanksgiving activity in the Philippines. Usually the members of the congregation bring their contributions already Saturday evening or Sunday morning and as seen in social media, the preparation and decoration for Thanksgiving are a very joyful part of congregational life. Pictures are seen all over new apostolic face book users.
The sermon at Makati Church was about our thankfulness to God for His work of salvation for mankind from the very beginning, the creation, to the end, the return of Christ. Everything is from God, life still originates from the Almighty, and must go through God, His ongoing work of salvation and eventually to God in the accomplishment, eternal fellowship with the Lord.
FROM HIM, THROUGH HIM, TO HIM (Romans 11:36) to Him be glory forever
